Hartmut Rosa absolvierte ein Magisterstudium der Politikwissenschaft, Philosophie und Germanistik an der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg im Breisgau und wurde an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin mit einer Arbeit zu Identität und kulturelle Praxis promoviert. Er ist Professor für Allgemeine und Theoretische Soziologie an der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Direktor des Max-Weber-Kollegs für kultur- und sozialwissenschaftliche Studien der Universität Erfurt und langjähriger Akademieleiter der Deutschen Schülerakademie.
In der von ihm untersuchten Soziologie der Weltbeziehung charakterisiert er Anverwandlungsprozesse als Beziehungsweisen, in denen Unverfügbares in seinem Sosein angenommen und zugleich transformiert wird. Resonanz: Eine Soziologie der Weltbeziehung ist ein Bestseller, zuletzt erschien von ihm Unverfügbarkeit in der Reihe Unruhe bewahren.
Hartmut Rosa is Professor of Sociology at the Friedrich-Schiller-University in Jena, Germany, and Director of the Max Weber Center for Advanced Cultural Studies, Erfurt, Germany. He also is an Affiliated Professor at the Department of Sociology, New School for Social Research, New York. In 1997, he received his PhD in Political Science from Humboldt-University in Berlin.
His publications focus on Social Acceleration, Resonance and the Temporal Structures of Modernity. In his book Resonance he continues the important analysis of the very nature of modernity laid out in his book Social Acceleration, and offers a new approach to basic human relationships, both to other people and to the world.
